Tequila is no longer just a shot with lime. It has evolved into one of the world's most versatile and celebrated cocktail spirits — capable of everything from bracing citrus sours to rich, smoky old fashioneds.
Made from the blue agave plant in the highlands and lowlands of Jalisco, Mexico, quality tequila brings an earthy, vegetal depth that no other spirit can replicate. These recipes harness that magic in drinks you can confidently mix at home.

MARGARITA
Shaken, salted, and utterly perfect
The margarita is both the world's most ordered cocktail and the most frequently massacred by shortcuts and artificial mixes. Made correctly — with quality blanco tequila, freshly squeezed lime, and real orange liqueur — it is a revelation of balance and brightness.
- 2 oz quality blanco tequila (100% agave)
- 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice (never bottled)
- ¾ oz Cointreau or Grand Marnier
- ½ oz agave nectar (optional, adjust to taste)
- Flaky sea salt for the rim
- Lime wheel or wedge to garnish
- Ice cubes (large, clean)
- Run a lime wedge around half the rim of a rocks glass. Dip in flaky salt on a small plate. Fill the glass with ice and set aside.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, fresh lime juice, Cointreau, and agave nectar. Fill with ice.
- Shake hard for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and frost forms on the outside.
- Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wheel or a salted lime wedge.
START WITH
GOOD TEQUILA
No amount of fancy technique or clever garnish can rescue a cocktail built on mediocre spirits. Look for 100% agave on the label — it is the single most important upgrade you can make to your home cocktail game.
BARTENDER SECRETS
Small details that transform a good cocktail into a great one
Always Fresh Citrus
Bottled lime juice is the fastest way to ruin a margarita. Squeeze fresh limes immediately before shaking — the difference is night and day.
Ice Quality Matters
Use large, clear ice cubes. They melt slower, dilute less, and look dramatically better in a glass. A bag of premium ice is worth every rupee.
Half Salt, Half Rim
Salt only half the rim of a margarita glass — guests who want salt get it on the first sip, those who don't can rotate the glass. It's a pro move.
Shake Hard, Strain Cold
Shake for a full 12–15 seconds until the shaker frosts over. The cold and the dilution from melting ice are as important as the ingredients.
Choose 100% Agave
The label must say "100% de agave." Mixto tequilas — blended with other sugars — produce inferior flavour and worse hangovers. Non-negotiable.
Infuse Your Own
Steep sliced jalapeños in blanco tequila for 2–4 hours (taste as you go). Strain and refrigerate — homemade spicy tequila in minutes, good for weeks.
Every cocktail is a small celebration. Squeeze the lime, salt the rim, shake with intention — and raise the glass to whoever you're with.
